Joyce DiDonato

Mezzo-soprano

American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is a multiple Grammy Award winner and has been described by The New Yorker magazine as "one of the most potent artists of her generation".

Her impeccable vocal technique and professional ethics create an image of a brilliant performer, a respected producer and a staunch defender of art in all its forms. Critics have hailed her as "the epitome of musical perfection". She is also a human rights activist and a respected educator.

Joyce's career spanned four decades, during which she recorded numerous albums and participated in productions and projects at leading opera houses and music halls around the world. Among her most memorable roles were those in "The Marriage of Figaro", "Don Giovanni", "Maria Stuarda", "Romeo and Juliet", "Agrippina", "The Barber of Seville", "Idomeneo", "Norma", "Semiramide"," Theodora" and many others. Over the years she has worked frequently with conductors of the stature of Zubin Mehta and Riccardo Muti.

A resident artist at Carnegie Hall, Joyce's concert highlights include appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Orchestra Révolutionnaire et Romantique, the Santa Cecilia Accademia Orchestra and a number of projects with the US National Youth Orchestra.

The Kansas native singer begins her ambitious 2023-24 season by opening The Metropolitan Opera’s season performing her signature role of Sister Helen in a new production of Jake Heggie’s "Dead Man Walking", followed by a reincarnation of Virginia Woolf in composer-in-residence Kevin Puts "The Hours". Joyce continues her successful EDEN and SONGPLAY tours in Asia, South America and Europe. DiDonato is an exclusive artist of the "Warner Classics/Erato" label.

Currently Craig serves as Music Director at the Opera of Chicago. Previously, he served as Assistant Conductor at The Metropolitan Opera. Craig has performed with such esteemed vocalists as Joyce DiDonato, Renée Fleming, Christine Goerke, Kate Lindsey and more.
